Wadjet. closely associated with the Eye of Ra. was depicted as a cobra common to the delta region. She is the protector of southern Egypt and is often shown coiled upon the head of Ra. acting as his protector. Nekhbet. the patron of northern Egypt. is often depicted as a vulture with her wings spread and is the protector through the afterlife. their image became the uraeus symbol used on the royal crowns.
